Charlotte's first MPA!
For all you non-musical folk, that means Music Performance Assessment. This year in Charlotte's band, she (with the band) performed for a series of judges. They award grades of Superior, Excellent, Good, and Poor based on the performance of the band.
She's such a little lovely, and they all did so well!
MPA is so fun to watch. It begins with a performance of a few songs, usually two or three, that the band has been practicing. One of the songs they played is by far my favorite they've done. Charlotte told me that when they were practicing, Mrs Zentz (her teacher) said they made her cry. In a good way! Meaning the music moved her to tears. I can see what she meant. It was a beautiful piece, and played perfectly.
The second part of MPA consists of what they call a "cold read". That's where the kids are all given a piece of music they haven't seen before, and they are given about a minute or so for the band director to take them through a couple of key points (crescendo, decrescendo, eight notes, or anywhere else she thinks might trip them up), and then they play it through one time for the judge. It's amazing!
Charlotte's band was THRILLED to find out they got a Superior score. They were so proud of themselves! And we were so proud!
Great job FCA Symphonic Band!
