Charlotte-isms 7-7-16
Charlotte is learning the difference between the words and meanings of "literally" and "metaphorically". The other day I told her she was killing me. "Really?!" she said. "Of course not, killing me metaphorically, not actually". So now whenever she exaggerates (which is very often) she follows it up with "metaphorically". "Mom! Natalie's brother came up to us and I thought he was going to kill us metaphorically!"
Charlotte had a rough year in 2nd grade. She had a crappy teacher and a disobedient class. There was a little boy that sat next to her and always tried to get her to break--meaning to get her to stop paying attention and being quiet like her teacher asked her to do. So Cameron (the little boy) leans over to her and says, "this is how we do it, pick your nose and chew it and wipe it on your underwear". To which Charlotte tells me after relaying the story, "Mom that's using bathroom language, and that didn't amuse me at all." Then she pauses and finishes with a tiny crack in her serious face, "but it did make me giggle."
What are you doing? 9-9-14
A few days ago we had a summer thunderstorm roll through our town. The thunder was booming and lightening accompanied it. The kids were a little nervous and kept running around checking out the window looking at the rain. Charlotte took a small reflective moment after one particularly loud boom of thunder and said quietly out the window, "God? Jesus? What are you doing up there?"

"Mom, the last time I pulled out a tooth, it didn't hurt at all, it was like Jesus put a spell on me or something."
B says Butt! 9-24-12
This morning Charlotte was walking around the house singing, "B says buh, B says buh, every letter makes a sound, B says buh." I praise, "That's right! Can you think of a word that starts with B?" Charlotte looks at me with her devilish grin and says "Butt!"

"What are you reading?" asks Charlotte.
"I'm reading about the Wise Men. Do you know what gifts the Wise Men brought to Jesus?"
"Gold!" she says.
"That's right!" I praise. "What else?"
"Um....Jelly!"

Oliver's Nook
June 4, 2014 - VCR magic
Dave and I were given a VCR just a few days ago. When we pulled out some of our (my) beloved cassette tapes, the kids were mystified. Charlotte began hoarding and Oliver positioned himself like a caveman over a video tape and proceeded to bang on it asking me how to open it so he could get the movie out. "How do I get the movie out, Mom? Where's the DVD?" Haha. This was only trumped by Dave beginning to rewind a video after we watched it and Oliver said "Whaaaaat's Haaaaaaaappeninnnnnnnggggg!!!!???"

It's always nice to have Charlotte run to me in a fit of rage mixed with tattling saying "Oliver's eating the donuts!", only to find little Ollie crouched on the floor digging into a box of donut holes.

Anyone want to hear about my first day with the kids alone?
Mom had gone home, Dave had to go back to work, and here was me with two kids. So Oliver has a big time blow out. Poop everywhere. I lay him down on the changer and begin to swab him with about 300 wipes and strip him of his clothing. Somehow, while I had his heels above his head trying to wipe up his back, his colon collapsed (or constricted) and shot a tube of mustard poop in my direction. Luckily motherhood has given me catlike reflexes and I dodged it. But it hit the carpet instead. I ignore the poop for a second and continue wiping. When all that is done, I wrap up the diaper only to witness Oliver's fire hose maleness squirting the vicinity with his special rinse. Bah! More wipes, and a quick diapering thwarted his plans for more carpet destruction. Then I quickly took off to retrieve the carpet cleaner. When I came back, of course I found Charlotte playing with Oliver...right in the pile of poop. Poop spread all over her and all over the carpet. Plus, in the interim, she had dropped a duce herself. Wonderful. Oliver clean, in his chair. Carpet cleaned. Charlotte hosed down, diaper changed. Me, hand sanitizer was the word of the day. It remains the worst twenty minutes of my life to date.

Gabriel: It's so dumb. They should just do paper, rock, scissors.
